1900  Physical Education International Congress – Paris / France. The idea of creating an International Organization of Physical Education appears for the first time. A "Permanent International Technical Commission of Physical Education" is organized.
  1911 

 Odensée International Congress / Denmark, from the 7th to the 10th of July. The "International Institute d’Education Physique" is created.

  1914  World War I – Institute's actions are interrupted.
1923  The ‘’Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique Educative’’ - F.I.G.E - is created on the 2nd of July, during the Brussels (Belgium) International Congress; the elected president is General LEFEBURE (Belgium) and the elected General Secretary is De Genst (Belgium).
1924 

On the 22nd of July, the International Committee gathers in Paris; Lefebure transfers the presidential office to Eimar NERMAM (Sweden); Vice Presidents: Dr. TISSIÉ (France) and VAN BLYENBURGH (Holland); Inspector GRÖNER (Norway) is the Treasurer.

1930  In June, F.I.G.E. holds Congress and Courses in Stockholm (Sweden) and on that occasion it is decided that its name would become ‘’Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique Ling’’- F.I.G.L.
1931  F.I.G.L. publishes its first Journal and organizes events.
1935  Major JOSEPH G. THULIN (Sweden) is elected President and M. HOLMSTROM is elected General Secretary in the F.I.G.L. International Congress and General Assembly on the 29th of June.
1939 KRAGH takes office as F.I.G.L Secretary and Treasurer in the General Assembly on the 20th of July.
1940  With the beginning of World War II, F.I.G.L. faces many hardships until 1945.
1949 

School, Scientific and Recreational International Sessions are created in the General Assembly in Stockholm (Sweden).

1953  In Istanbul (Turkey) Congress and General Assembly, from the 2nd to the 9th of April, President J.G. Thulin's proposal to change the name of the institution to ‘’Fédération Internationale d’Éducation Physique’’ – F.I.E.P. is approved.
1958  In Brussels (Belgium) World Congress and General Assembly from the 4th to the 5th of July, President Thulin resigns because of his age. Prof. Dr. ANTONIO LEAL D’OLIVEIRA (Portugal) takes office.
1970  F.I.E.P. launches - Physical Education World Manifesto – FIEP, which lays the concept of Physical Education and guides its paths worldwide. - The President of FIEP was Dr. PIERRE SEURIN (France) from 1970 to 1983, period when there is a great development and FIEP expands throughout all the continents by settling delegations in more than 100 countries, and by promoting a great number of events.
1981  O Prof. JOHN C. ANDREWS (England) is elected World President and remains in that position until January 2000. He consolidates FIEP as a world organization that attends the highest number of countries, accomplishes great impulse to the institution in Latin America, creates the PRINCE FAISAL Scientific Prize and also strengthens ties with Arabian countries.
2000 

 In Foz do Iguaçu (Brazil) General Assembly, held during the FIEP / 2000 –Physical Education World Congress that took place from the 9th to the 13th of January, 2000, Prof. Dr. Manoel José Gomes Tubino (Brazil) is elected World President and Prof. John C. Andrews is nominated FIEP President of Honour. During that event, the FIEP 2000 - PHYSICAL EDUCATION WORLD MANIFESTO is launched. After 30 years, the new document expands the concept of Physical Education after having understood that it is a right of all. The new Manifesto demonstrates that Physical Education nowadays goes beyond its interdependent relations to Education and will become Education for Health and for Leisure through the development of people's active lifestyles. The Olympic Education Session is created, and its president is Mrs. Deanna L. Binder (Canada).
